Inclusive Intelligence: Merging UDL, Accessibility, and Privacy in AI-Enhanced Learning
Tuesday May 13, 2025 9:45am - 10:45am PDT
This session explores the powerful intersection of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), inclusive practices, and data privacy considerations in AI-enhanced educational environments. Drawing from Peninsula School District's experience implementing AI through an inclusivity lens, we'll demonstrate how these technologies can provide multiple means of representation, engagement, and expression—the core principles of UDL—while prioritizing accessibility and student privacy.

Participants will discover how AI can catalyze fostering inclusion and autonomous learning when thoughtfully integrated with UDL principles. We'll address critical ethical considerations surrounding AI implementation, including bias awareness and data privacy protections that ensure equitable access for all learners. The presentation will offer frameworks for evaluating AI tools through an inclusivity lens and developing ethical guidelines that center student agency while maintaining high standards.

Through practical applications and case studies, attendees will learn strategies for using AI to eliminate barriers, cultivate inclusive educational spaces, and enhance learning for diverse students. Join us to explore how integrating UDL principles, accessibility considerations, and privacy frameworks can transform AI from a technological tool to a powerful force for educational equity. This collaborative approach addresses immediate classroom challenges and catalyzes systemic change toward a more just and equitable educational landscape in the digital era.

Learning Generative AI through the lens of culture, self-identity and storytelling
Tuesday May 13, 2025 1:30pm - 2:30pm PDT
In this workshop, educators will go through a condensed version of a 12-hour AI workshop originally developed in collaboration with the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians. The workshop was created as a way of introducing AI to tribal high school students in a culturally relevant and respectful way. Using the art of storytelling, students explore various Generative AI platforms, learning AI and communication skills through the lens of culture and self-identity, while critically examining the themes of AI bias, representation, ethics, copyright, data sovereignty, security and privacy issues. This is a hands on workshop and attendees are encouraged to bring their laptops and/or mobile devices to try different Generative AI tools and explore how to engage students around the ethical and responsible use of AI.
