About me
Rafeel Wasif’s research focuses on AI governance and data justice in mission-driven organizations, including nonprofits and public sector agencies. His work examines how these organizations can ethically and effectively adopt AI tools, with a focus on power, equity, and the risks of algorithmic bias—particularly within minority-led and community-based nonprofits. He has conducted nationwide surveys on public acceptance of AI in the nonprofit sector and patterns of AI adoption across mission-driven organizations.
Rafeel serves as a Data Justice Steward for the Oregon Department of Education, advising on the ethical use of data to advance equity and support meaningful outcomes for students and communities. He is completing a book on AI governance for nonprofits and public agencies and has published two books and over fifteen peer-reviewed articles on nonprofit management and philanthropy. His teaching integrates AI tools and creative methods to prepare future leaders to engage critically with emerging technologies while staying grounded in social justice values.
